Race Rules
Rules
Please review each aspect of the race rules below. If violation of a specific rule results in a penalty, the penalty is noted after the rule in (italic type). All participants will be required to sign that they have read and understand the race rules.

Equipment
  • Lost passport (Disqualification)
  • All mandatory equipment must be approved at registration by race committee.
  • Mandatory equipment must be carried at all times, no exceptions. This includes race passport and a visible race number.
  • Bib numbers must be visible at all times. (30 minutes per infraction)
  • Mandatory equipment for specific sections need only be carried as specified by organizers for that leg. (There will be at least one check of Mandatory gear on the course). (One hour)
  • Dropping off or picking up of equipment may only take place at the one Transition Area. No neutral support, but may use resources in town, i.e. buy water at a convenient store. (One hour)
  • Use of GPS-global positioning systems, radios, cellular phones, night vision goggles are prohibited. Watches with only a compass and an altimeter are allowed. (Disqualification)
On the race course
  • Teammates (if applicable) must stay within 50 feet of each other at all times during the race. (30 minutes each infraction)
  • Competitors must stay on the prescribed course. Stay off private property unless specified.
  • Competitors must complete the entire course, pass through all checkpoints in order, and have their passport signed or punched at each checkpoint.
  • Competitors must use only the mode of travel specified for each leg. (e.g. teams cannot cycle during the trekking section). (Disqualification)
  • Only human-powered travel is allowed. (Disqualification)
  • Respect the environment. No littering. Carry out all that you carry in. Bury all sanitary waste. (Disqualification)
  • No outside assistance, other than in specified transition areas may be utilized by competitors. Support crews not allowed. (Disqualification)
  • Competitors may help each other during the race. If a team is in trouble, other teams are encouraged to help. A time bonus may be awarded to the helping team at the race director's discretion.
  • All members of each team must check in together at each checkpoint. All team members must cross the finish line within 20 feet of all other members of their team.
  • Competitors will not be allowed to wear mountain biking helmets during the rope sections (if applicable). Approved helmets will be provided. (Disqualification)
Withdrawal
Teams may continue if one team member withdraws, but will not be considered in the final standings. The remaining competitor must carry all team mandatory equipment. Voluntary withdrawals must occur at transition areas or a manned checkpoint. Teams that withdraw must notify race officials at the transition area.
race organization
Penalties will be added to team or individual's total time at the end of the race. The race director and course designer will determine time penalties for specific rules infractions prior to start of the race. Winners will be the fastest complete 2-person team or individual competitors in each category (including penalties) to cross the finish line with a complete passport. The Race Organizers reserve the right to assess time penalties or bonuses to competitors. Race organizers reserve the right to decide whether or not a person or team may continue for health, safety, or other reasons (e.g. inadequate time remaining to finish entire course). Race organizers reserve the right to make changes to the course in order to protect the safety of the competitors at any time.
